Greetings from Austin, Texas...

I'm not a new diver, more of a "returning to the sport" after a long absence. For now I'm looking for folks to dive with in the Austin area. I'm a fairly laid back, somewhat socially inept dork. If you can tolerate that... well give me shout...

Cheers,

Welcome to Scubaboard!

Austin has a very active dive community. I know that Oakhill Scuba and Scubaland have dive clubs you can join. The next big community event coming up is the annual Lake Travis Cleanup on Sept. 12. You should be able to find a link at Keep Austin Beautiful.

The best local deep diving is in Lake Travis and I prefer to dive with Robert off his boat the Giant Stride. The best vis diving is in Spring Lake in San Marcos. You need to take the Diving For Science class offered by the Aqurena Center to get permission to dive there. Finally be sure to check out the Texas Swamp Divers subforum on Scubaboard.

Hope this helps and welcome back to diving.

Central Texas is full of divers. Get involved with the Lake Travis Cleanup on September 12th, it's a lot more fun than it might seem. Go by any dive shop (Oak Hill :D), they'll have all the info for this event. Also, be sure to get your "old" equipment serviced if needed.

Oakhill is a very good shop and happens to be the most convenient for me. Great service and super nice people.

Thanks for all the replies and information! I have discovered the Giant Stride and have been out 5 times this year and have another trip scheduled for Saturday evening. Busy weekend for Robert.

I've been going to Toms Dive and Swim. I've been very happy with them so far, taken great care of me.

Signing up for the Lake Travis Cleanup.

My old gear was "antique". OK... just because I bought it in 1976... Well, the tank passed visual and hydro, but it was in storage for 25 years under low pressure. Probably has about 100 dives on it. The rest, well, may they "rust in piece"...

Any, thanks for the welcomes and Happy Diving!

Cheers,

SomeGuy
