Hi All,

We have been to:
Cozumel
Grand Cayman
Bonaire
Belize
Roatan
Tahiti

want a liveaboard, but its out of budget range for the next couple years.

Dont want any repeat trips.

Considering;
Little Cayman
Utila
Bahamas
Not really sure really
Fiji (may be pricey)

Criteria, great diving, one flight from Houston (not a requirement but will help with costs), like inclusive. We are easy travelers so it shoudl be pretty wide open. 2 divers.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Utila or Bahamas looks like your best bet on that criteria. Little Cayman would be two flights for sure, and Fiji will almost certainly be as well. I suspect the diving is superior in Little Cayman and Fiji though.

What about Turks & Caicos? That has some pretty fine diving, and ought to be a direct flight from Houston?

You say you don't want repeat trips, but Belize is a big place and if you go to a different area than you did the first time, it will be a completely different trip. Same is somewhat true of Grand Cayman, if you stayed and dove the West End like many first time visitors, you would find the East End a completely different trip.

Also look at Curacao or Turks & Caicos. And as far as liveaboards, I wouldn't automatically rule that out, especially with all the deals to be found. You may very well find rates on some liveaboards are no more than you would wind up paying for land-based.

I just returned from Little Cayman and it was GREAT! It was my third trip there and second staying at the Little Cayman Beach Resort. The place is awesome. Beautiful rooms, incredible food and tons of it, and what is probably the best diving in the Caribbean along Bloody Bay Wall.

It will take two flights. One from Houston to GC and then a small plane from GC to LC but it's only a 30 minute flight. Not bad at all. If you go there you won't be disappointed.

I would do Fiji.
There are deals for Fiji right now that are no more expensive than trips in Caribbean! Plus there is airfare direct to Fiji from LAX on Air Pacific, or on Continental through Honolulu, making travel there much easier than many other destinations.

Look at deals to Wananavu Resort on:
Island Dreams Travel scuba diving vacations, cozumel scuba diving, dive travel, dive resorts, diving trips
Under the Surface. Over the Top. Dive Travel and Vacations - Caradonna Dive Adventures

Wow good stuff!!! I will start look at some of these destinations. The flight limit is not that big of a deal I guess.

Not sure if time of year matters much, but we are thinking January 2011.

Hawaii - Kauai - dive Nihau Island.
Coronado, Carmen, Catalan, Montserrat and Danzante are just off just off the coast of Loreto BC Mexico.

I am with the Hawaii vote. If you have a flexible schedule you can wait until a deal drops to make it quite affordable. Saba might be on my list but for other reasons.

I would/have looked at the Philippines. Easy to get to MNL, and it looks like some awesome diving is not far from there. If I had more flexibility (and/or a wife that dives, and likes more exotic foods) I would really look there.
I've been looking to get out of our Cozumel "routine", so I'm going on the Nai'a in Fiji next month- travelling solo. Land based trips to Fiji look more econiomical than I had expected, too. Last year there were RT flights from LAX to Fiji for $865!
Also, check with dive shops for their group trips. I've seen some pretty good deals, and it might get you to try something really different.
Have fun!

Since you said you two were fairly easy going in your travels...

I thought Fiji was a good choice but considered the distance involved and thought if you were willing to go from Houston to Fiji, then Flying to Cairo and then to Hurghada or Marsa Alam shouldn't be too much of a problem.

The diving will be spectacular (personally, if it was just for diving, I would choose the Red Sea over Fiji) and being Egypt, it'll be relatively cheap.

Just a thought.
