Hello Everyone,

The Scuba Shop in Fort Walton Beach has sponsered the creation on a new forum just for the Panhandle area. The goal is to make it easier for people to find local information and spread local news to divers both in the area and coming to visit. Come check it out at The Scuba Shop Fort Walton Beach Destin and click on the Forums option in the menu.

We are also looking for suggestions for different forum topics and people to moderate them. If your interested contact me here or thru The Scuba Shops website. We hope everyone has a great diving season!

Also check The Scuba Shop Fort Walton Beach Destin for specials and promotions!

Thanks,
Curt Palermo

Maybe it's just me but I though this forum is for the Panhandle divers? Not to mention that it might be in bad taste advertising in this forum for your forum? Just sayin'.........

How about we lighten up and understand that this is simply the attempt of one of our local dive shops trying to survive in this bad economy. I think Scubaboard and the DDD section is secure and not about to be put out of business. I am happy to see MY local dive shop doing something proactive to encourage business and diving in our area, instead of just complaining about how bad business is.

As for the picture Mat, I think I took that one and although I would not really call it being "In" a cavern....your point is well taken.

No problem with the forum itself, I hope it, and the shop does well. MBT tried a local forum for several years before its users disolved into other larger forums, ScubaBoard, Spearboard, ect.

I just don't think its a great idea to advertise the caverns to OW divers. IMO, some of them can be dived safely by OW divers in OW gear, but the divers need to already be comfortable in their gear and understand that not all of the caverns are the same - what you can(or can't) get away with in one cavern might not apply to the next. Sticking it out there on a home page without any stipulations just isn't a great idea - thats all I'm sayin.

I agree on both points. I am going to ask Curt about using another picture.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Thread moved to the appropriate forum.

FWIW, we host private forums right here on ScubaBoard for any dive club, private or commercial in nature.
PM me for details. Forums are what we do best, and we can help you expose your club to our users and readers!

I am pretty sure Scubaboards income is based on advertisements and page views. Another forum takes those page views away.....

It's like going into a Wal-Mart and handing out cards to your local grocery store....it's inappropriate.

I am sure that any local dive shop could purchase targeted ad banners on SB that showed up when LOCAL divers where browsing.....

Actually, its a huge internet. I have found that it's best to help other forums and not look on them as competitors. After all, look at the interest generated by this simple advertisement. We only ask that they put them in the right place.

Yes, we sell advertising, but we are here to promote diving and sharing our diving experiences. Social Media is a brand new concept for most dive shops. There are a lot of pitfalls and it's easy to alienate your target audience as is evidenced by your comments.

I encourage shops, charters and manufacturers to sattend my seminars on Social Media that I give at DEMA as well as elsewhere. With enough advanced planning, I can do this for any entity that wants to succeed in today's market. In fact, I will be talking to Aqualung the day before DWADDay about this very topic. I am always available to answer questions: just call or PM me.
