USVet96 - Thanks for the responses, I would have been willing to buy the gear that I trained in since it seemed to work for what I was doing. The main reason that I have not been diving much is because I haven't had gear... I've had several opportunities, between my friends and I have we have several boats we have just been focused on other things like wakeboarding, fishing, cruising, and now a few of us would like to do a little more diving. The rest of my buddies have gear, so I would like to have to my own so I'm not borrowing, and having to rent stuff.

Anyway, I figured this might have been a good way to find some qualtity yet inexpensive gear and maybe help someone out of there old stuff. I don't really know what I want but I do know that shelling out $100 for gear rental when I want to dive won't get me any closer to actually owning anything.

DocCarl - How much do you want for the BC?

Alindquist, I have a few regulators that I would be willing to part with, but I suggest that you try them first to see if you like them..in extra regulators, I have a zeagle flat head, a couple MK25/250v's, and an apex tx 200. Could get you a deal on an Atomic if you wanted a new one.

I'm in Destin almost every weekend.

Alindquist, Welcome to the wonderful world of diving! I can't disagree with anything anyone here is saying. It's all sound advice. Sounds like a couple of good deals are popping up too. I also live in Navarre (HBTS) and would love to help you out.

I have a couple of different style BC's, Regs, and computers (A lot more than I will admit to around my wife;)), if you want to take the time I could meet you at the HBTS pool or the pool at my house and we could try a few things out and talk a bit about differences, what kind of diving you plan to do, etc.

Hetland and a couple of others hit the nail on the head and it sounds like you are taking the right approach and asking questions before you buy. I too think that there are a lot of good deals to be had in used gear and you'll find a lot of stuff in the area that will generally meet your needs but may not take you from where you are at now to your 1000th dive. Start by slowing down and asking yourself where you'll dive and how often. If you're someone that only plans to go to Vortex twice a year then you may be better off renting gear, I mean why buy what you'll never really use. If you plan to dive about 4 times a month then you should definately buy your gear as the rental costs will quickly go over $500/year.

I too like the thought of spending nearly all your dough on good regs and I agree with Hetland that you should look at Atomic or Scubapro although they are not the cheapsest, but they are IMHO the best. Judge for yourslef by looking at Dive professionals and technical divers and see wht they have. I dive about 200 times a year and my Scubapro MK25/S600 has done me very well..... I own 4 of them for myself, and family.

Anyway, I'm rambling. PM me and we can hook up and try some gear at the pool and I'll give you some points and tips based on the diving you want to do.

MRXRAY - Thanks for the offer, I'm not sure how to send a PM (I figured out how to respond to them). I could meet up today or tomorrow if that works for you. Maybe we can work out a deal!!!

Puffer - I have seen your posts and pictures, they look amazing. Do you have a boat in Destin? I'm looking to meet some new dive buddies so if you heading out and need another guy let me know. Hopefully I'll be able to track some stuff down in the next week or two.

Thanks guys.
Aaron

If I might chime in on the gear purchases...I have used the classified ads here on scubaboard to round out my gear set! If your willing to pay usually with paypal and wait on shipping good deals abound from the generous family of Divers here on the board. I have purchased a wetsuit, second computer, fins and backplate from the classified ads! hope that helps! p.s. you have to keep watching those ads, they sell quick!!!! Josh

If y'all are looking thru your extra gear please let me know if you have a light to sell cheap. I'm looking for something to dive Pickens and other shore dives. I'd like a bright narrow beam to see into all the little nook and crannies down there. I'd prefer the slender lights that look like mag-lites but won't be too picky. :blinking:

THANKS!!!
