How about the great, great, great, greater Grand Rapids area ... Traverse City? :cheeky:

Welcome! :-)

Thanks jon, I just found the board today. My litle sister (19) and I just finished a 2 day course and are waiting for our open water mid may. Looks like tons of nice spots to dive in teh Great lakes with a little more experience and certification for wrecks.

Well then, best of luck to you and your sister in finishing your OW certification in the spring. Tons of cool stuff for you to look forward to!

Who did you take your academic and confined water training through? I might know them.

Oh and don't forget to check out the scuba clubs portion of this site under "Great Lakes Wrecking Crew." Thats our areas own little part of this site. Lots of good people on there.

Any here from the greater Grand Rapids Area?

I took my class three weeks ago from American Dive Zone on 28th street and East beltline (M-37). Instructors name is "Mike Palmer" a PADI instructor/shop onwer. Great guy! Fun, Cares for the students, funny, it was a great time. Now I'm in the market for some gear. Looking at the same regs I had in class a Poseidon setup (the one the navy uses), I like how the exhaust bubles stay away from your mask. Also I need a good bc, but jeepers, theirs tons to choose from. I like what I have read about the Mares morphos, and the dragon fly. Any suggestions? Any way, thanks for the help. Take care,

Well, it is a great place, and one of these days I am going to get wreck certified. Then I can do some decent Great Lakes diving. Not certain there is much off of our shores to attrack general diving, however. Perhaps someone else knows better.

I have a few friends that live in St. Joe so I'm down there all the time.

I've heard of Mike but don't really know him. As far as suggestions go i'll be glad to give you my two cents on anything i know. I suggest you start asking questions in the various forums in here to get others input also.

A word of caution though. You will get a lot of strong opinions in here on this and that being the only way to go. Take it all with a grain of salt. The main thing is that you are happy with what you get and it works well for you.

This forum can help you avoid some of the pitfalls most newer divers make buying gear but it can also send you down the wrong road. The hard part is trying to learn which is the correct road for you.

Ask any questions you like but try to do it in the various forums for your best chance of getting good responses. Like ask regulator questions in the regulator forum.

Ps: I really like Poseidon regs. I have three of them. :)

not me, bjpell, but welcome aboard all the same
