So, having perused Scubaboard for information on the BP/W setup and reading through countless pages of information regarding transpacs, and comfort harnesses and Hog harnesses, etc... I finally decided to shoot a PM to Tobin to discuss a setup for myself. Despite the horrible time difference (I'm in Hong Kong, DSS is in California...), Tobin was quick to reply to my questions and suggested a suitable setup for me based on replies to a couple of questions.

Placed my order for a Medium SS backplate, LCD20 wing and Hog harness a little over a week ago. After what seemed like an excruciating wait, the package from DSS finally arrived today! It's lunch time, I'm the office and I can't wait to get home to set everything up. I suspect the next few hours are going to go by SO slowly.

I'll be taking my new rig with me to Palau this Friday and I'm so excited. Thanks Tobin for putting up with all my silly questions and for getting everything across the world to me so quickly. ;)

(ps - Boys and their new toys... just had to share the joy!)

Smart buy. I bought a DSS Medium steel plate, Hog Harness and 20lb. wing; by the 10th dive I was beside myself. This rig straight up rocks.

Tobin & DSS Gear rock!

cheers,

Thanks fisheater, found that website very useful!

I spent a good two hours adjusting the hog harness last night (first time...) with my 3mm wetsuit on. Let me tell you, it's no fun in the stifling heat and humidity of Hong Kong, even with the air conditioning on! :) All in all, though time consuming, it wasn't very difficult to setup the hog harness at all. It's also remarkably comfortable! I'll have a better idea when I dive with it for a week starting this Saturday in Palau. Oh yes!

So, first impressions:
1) this thing seems bullet proof
2) it's comfortable (can't see the fuss about comfort harnesses or backplate padding)
3) nowhere near as difficult to setup the hog harness as it seems
4) donning and doffing seems easy enough on land, will see how it is in the water
5) freedom of movement and space across my entire front is a revelation!

I've heard such good things about BP/Ws, and DSS in particular. My flight to Palau tomorrow cannot come soon enough! :) :) :)

Hey all, just got back from Palau and the diving was absolutely stunning.

So how did my new DSS rig perform? Incredibly! It's like a whole new dimension has been revealed to me. After my first dive, I knew I could never look back. And it just got better and better with every dive as I made small adjustments to the fit and got comfortable with the different buoyancy characteristics.

Thanks for a great product Tobin! Diving will never be the same again.

Sounds like your trip was a success.

Glad to hear the goodies are meeting your needs.

Thanks for the kind words.
