Just got my Open water cert last Sunday at Lake Jocassee in SC. Already excited about going back to the lake in a week. Would love to go to the coast to dive, but time is limited right now. Am looking to start buying equipment. Looking for advice. Have mask, fins, booties, snorkle. Where to go next? New vs used? Name brands? All info appreciated.

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

You'll definitely want to go through the equipment forums and ask about one piece of equipment at a time. You may want to do a little research on whether you want to dive with a Jacket Style BC or a Packplate and Wing setup. That choice (and the reason for it) may determine the direction you'll take on many of the other gear choices you make.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

Hi dolphinfan and welcome aboard.

When you start to purchase your equipment it will probably depend alot on your finances and what you feel is more important to buy first. You might be able to rent the equipment before you buy it, this gives you time to research what you want and try different things out. If you don't have a wetsuit or a computer yet you might want to start with one of those two. Just remember not to buy something you are not sure of, you might regret it later on.

Oh ya, also talk to people you dive with about what they like and dislike about the equipment they use and use that to help you make your choices. What doesn't work for one person might be just fine for another and vice versa.

Good luck!

Howdy!

I just want to join the others in welcoming you to SB. Hope to get to know you around the forums. I go to North Carolina to dive the wrecks there; SC is known more for river diving, isn't it?

It's gonna' be a little quite around here for the next week, as our Florida friends prepare for a big storm, :sofa: endure it, then get their electricty going again. Bear with us. I'm leaving tonight to dive Canadian wrecks.

Completing your Profile and seperately - keeping your Dive Info up to date helps in future diving instructions. PM me if I can help you learn your way around.
