Welcome to the board. What shop did you get certified with in Pittsburgh? I dive at Strawberry quarry locally, but we also go out to Bainbridge, Gilboa or up to Erie. I also venture up to the St. Lawrence as well.

I was certified through Randy's Dive Shop in Irwin (south of Pittsburgh) & did my cert dives at Gilboa.

Gilboa Quarry in Findlay, OH.

Ah! I was just asking 'cause I did my cert dives north of Pittsburgh. I believe they were called Little Kino and Big Kino quarries(?). Just wanted to see if you dove those mud-holes as well.

You already know this, but you ought to move to a state with an ocean :water: I did, and it's why I took diving back up again.

We usually go to Strawberry, which is close to the Kino quarries. I don't think anyone goes back to the Kino quarries much anymore since someone got to see a golf club close up if you know what I mean.

As for moving to an ocean water state, I would love to as well, but we're only 2 hours from Lake Erie and not all that far away from the St. Lawrence. The water may be cold but the wrecks stay around for a lot longer.

I would love to move to an ocean state. I was diving in Key West a couple of weeks ago and it definately was a different experience than diving the quarry. The main difference being warmer water obviously.

I think we were slated to go to Strawberry, but it was frozen over? No, I haven't heard... who got clubbed, and why?

It was not anyone that I knew and not sure it was anyone local to the Pittsburgh shops. My best friend manages Splash, and told me about the incident and why they don't go back. From my understanding, the motive was robbery. Even at Strawberry, we always have a couple people who are non-divers go with us just to keep an eye on things, and we always have some sort of protection with us. I feel safe up there but I am always wary of the locals.
