hey guys.... my name is Zack, i am from Baltimore, MD. I am originally from Eilat, Israel but i move here when i was twelve. I am seventeen right now. I just recently passed my SSI Open Water Certification, and now i am hooked on scuba diving. My father grew up in miami (and then decided to move to a Kibbutz in Eilat where i was born, then took a job at Johns Hopkins) and i already haev plans to go down to Key Largo and dive some before school starts after labour day. i REALLY feel i could be good at this, you know? I was always good underwater- i always felt very natural. i am very good at holding my breath (not that i need to while diving, just a good thing to have when (god forbid) one runs out of air haha) and used to scare the lifeguards at the pool into thinking i was drowning. I really am itching to get back in the water, and i really like the feeling of being underwater and breathing. maybe after i log a couple more dives i will sign up for some specialty courses. i think dry suit diving would be a good one, since i hear Ocean City is FRIGID past the thermocline.... who knows. well i am happy to introduce myself..

Howdy!

Welcome to SB!!
:happywave Put us in your computer's favorites and check in often. This is a great place to learn, compare, argue :argue: Look around our various forums - everything from New-To-Scuba to Instructors-Only to Dive Medicine.

Now, didn't your Instructor tell you that we NEVER hold our breath, even if we run out of air? Good way to injure, even rupture your lungs. But Key Largo is a wonderful place for a newbie to practice. It worked well for me, and I go back once or twice a year.

BTW - Did you set up your Profile? Some ideas for your Profle might be taken from looking at mine. Click on my Username to the upper left, then click on my Profile, and see what I've done. yeah yeah my instructor told me to NEVER EVER EVER hold my breath.... i know that much. i am just saying i might be a future free diver and all. it was funny, one of my first certification dives i discovered i had HUGE lung capacity because with every breath i would take, i would rise like, five feet. it was a nice thing to have because there were lots of dead tree limbs in the quarry we were diving, and so i could just float right over them with one quick wiff.

one of the reasons i signed up to get certified was beacuse i am an avvid traveler. I really enjoy traveling, espcially going back home to the red sea. the kibbutz i was born in and spent most of my life in is literally WEDGED between jordan and Egypt. My kibbutz grows experimental fruits (ever heard of pluapples or dinosaur eggs? broccaflour?) and when the jordanians clarified the border, international laws claimed about all of our fields to the jordanians. we were about to give them up gladly in persuit of peace, but the JOrdanians were very nice to us and gave us our fields. We always have dinner in the no-mans land with the municipality leader every month. its a nice thing.

anyway, i have been all across the world, and ESPECIALLY to all these great scuba spots, and I wasnt certified!!! I have been to the great barrier reef, i grew up right on the red sea, i just recently came back from thailand, i was in cozumel not to long ago.... so i figured i should get certifed as quickly as possible and not have to do EVERYTHING over again!

are most of the people here really hardcore divers and instructors?

Hey Zach. Welcome to the board. Fun people, fun topics, great info.

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

Some of the divers here are hard core tech divers and explorers and some are recreational divers. We have forums for everyone's interests.

Enjoy the board! I look forward to your contributions as you share your dive travel stories with us in the future.

Dive safe!

Christian

Welcome to the board and the sport. Looks like you're already learning some important things about bouyancy control with your breathing experiments - that's great.

Best wishes for peace at home and safe ascents from your dives,
Grier

Heya and welcome to the Board.. I'm the same way when it comes to the water.. When you make plans to come to Florida, make sure to post a thread. There's alot of us Florida Conch Divers here, and someones always diving somewhere.. Excellent way to meet new dive buddy and great friends.

It's addictive, but who cares?!?!?

Good friends and good info. What could be better???

P.S. - If you have not already done so, please fill out your profile.

to answer your question, "YES". We are all "hard core" divers or instructors. Diving is life.

Hello from Matt,
