50 years ago, July, I earned my NAUI Jr. Scuba c-card. For those just starting or considering becoming certified I can tell you, for me, its been an amazing journey so far. I could never have imagined on the day I received this card the experiences I would have and the people that I would meet along the way. Strangers became best friends. I met people from all walks of life and from all over the world. As I gained experience I recognized the need for further education which made my diving experience so much more fulfilling. This adventure has taken me half way around the world, from sitting on stool in a tiki hut on the edge of a barren coast having a post dive "refreshment" to the Explorers Club in NY.
Diving has also taken me to deep wrecks and reefs and to caves that were crystal clear to some with 5' visibility. But many of my most fulfilling dives came from my local shallow reefs, nothing fancy.
I never had a singular goal, I just took in what came and as my imagination grew, so did my diving.
Enjoy it, its a great hobby! (and I type this with 4 stables in my head from a bit of an "accident" coming out of a lava tube in Hawaii free-diving
