I was at DEMA and bought a new hard case for my camera equipment. I have been using the Pelican 1510, but it was just a little too shallow to carry my strobes on end. On their side, they take up too much room.
Well, I saw a case by Seahorse that was a little larger on all dimensions. The rep said that he has carried it on several types of planes with no problems.
My sister is taking a trip to Florida and will be packing her clothes in it to give it an overhead trial. I'll let you know the results.
BTW, My 1510 box fits inside the Seahorse box.

Sounds great!

Just keep in mind if you are traveling overseas, especially on smaller jump jets, that new weight restrictions apply to carryons, too. I think Qantas is 10kgs and they were fairly adamant about it on my last trip. In one airport, they weighed every piece of carry-on as we went into the customs area; in another, they weighed the hand luggage at the baggage counter. If you're overweight, you'll have to check it.

I am very familiar with the weight limits. Quantas has nailed me several times, as well as smaller "puddle jumpers". However, if you can just get it to the gate, the worst case scenario is that they gate check it. I usually have someone stand to the side watching carry-ons and then we take turns at the check-in. I can assure you my box is in serious violation of the weight limits. I don't mind gate checking it as the baggage handlers don't have the opportunity to rummage through your box. I won't use a soft case for that reason. I would be horrified if a hard case landed in the middle of my nice soft camera case.
I am using two Oly 5060s, two DS 125s, Ultralite tray and arms, two Inon close up lenses with double dock, and "stuff".
I was especially interested in the added depth in case I decide to go DSLR in the future and need the extra space. My sister will be using it for her DSLR.

so how can we compare among the hard cases like pelican, seahorse n stormchaser?

I used a Storm carry-on case for my camera gear on all my trips. After my last trip I am done with carry-on hard cases.

My Storm case was weighed by every airline I boarded. It was overweight and I had to beg them to let me take it onboard. Every airline is different and even the same airline has different weight limits for different destinations. Hawaiian Airlines allowed me 25 pounds carry-on just going inter-island. Philippine Airlines allows 7 kilos carry-on.

It's a soft camera carry-on case for me from now on. Every kilo/pound counts.

sun - sometimes it isn't necessary to get the nitty gritty on things. The stormcases and the pelicans have a long history of excellence, so you can't go too wrong with either if a hard case is the way you want to go. These seahorse cases look nice and appear to have good support - Allison's first hand thoughts will be valuable as she has a Pelican, too. Can't see why they wouldn't be good. Doskogil also makes hard cases and they are great, too.

sadly, airlines are getting pretty strict with dimensions and weight of carryons. One of the reasons I decided to get a hard case to check in (yes, sadly it means I'm grossly over my check-in allowance w/ some airlines). In Hong Kong, even if you get by the checkin counter, there are gals at the immigration/ security checkin entrance who will double check that people are not bringing oversize/ overweight carryon and I've seen them send people back to checkin large bags. I don't want to risk all my DSLR gear getting thrown in the check in luggage in a soft bag...

I also made the mistake of getting the 1510 carryon. Total mistake. Just large enough to squeeze my current setup (but will not have room for some new ports I plan to buy). Plus the 1510 empty is HEAVY!
