quick question

i'm new to using a DSLR need some assistance please.

here is the setup

Canon 350D XT camera
Sea & Sea YS-90 TTL Strobe
ikelite housing for the 350D with dome port

I already have the camera but the strobes and housing are what I'm loking at to purchase.

question is will these work well together?
what sync cord? would be needed for the strobes?

thanks

I use a 7D in a Nauticam housing - a great system! I don't think that they make one for the 350D, but they do for the 550...

Sync cords are specific for the housing and flash, so wherever you get the housing would determine which cords you get. I recommend a fiberoptic cable if possible instead of a sync cord - no housing leak point, smaller, lighter and they can be field repaired.

The YS-90 is an older but terrific strobe. I have one from my first UW camera system.

One thing to consider if you are going to do DSLR underwater photography - the camera body is such a small percentage of the total gear cost, that some people consider the body as an accessory to the housing. If you get a good deal on a housing for another Canon body, or if you want to spend a bit more and get a metal housing (I don't know who makes one for the 350D), then you might actually be better off by getting another body, especially if you can pick one up second hand. Ikelite and Fantasea make less expensive plastic housings, and here are a few other options that I'm not familiar with...

The lenses are also one of the most important considerations - I strongly recommend the Tokina 10-17 fisheye and the Tamron 60mm macro. Be sure to budget for some good glass...

Good luck!

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES

2nd question
what lens do you reccomend for macro and wide angle?

For macro, I use the Tamron 60 mm - it's a great lens, I love it.

For wide angle, I used to use the Tokina 12-24, but I just switched to the 10-17 fisheye. The fisheye is fantastic, really makes for great UW shots, lets you get very close which translates into much better images IMHO.
