I don't know if you know this one.

He liked the old Brandy a bit apparently. One evening he was meant to be a bit sozzled and there were a load of diplomats and wives around.
He was sat next to some woman and she is meant to have said to him;

"Sir. I do believe you are drunk!"

He said...

"Madame, I may be drunk, as indeed you are ugly .... But.. in the morning... I shall be sober!"

He never even had to say, but you'll still be ugly. Brilliant.

Wow, cool looking book, I will be buying one.
Welcome from another Noob!
Someday I will get around to posting my bio.

Buying from Amazon, BTW, hope that's OK.

Thanks for ordering the book. You must let me know your thoughts. I've got broad-ish shoulders!

I had to sign a book for a bloke at the London Dive Show, who was giving it to his son.

I had to write:
To Joe
There are two types of divers in this world...
And you're neither!

Well it made me laugh.

I hope you enjoy it. Please let me know. Where did you order from by the way?
Tony

Followed your link to Sheridan House.

The book seems to be enjoying a modest success by the number of copies sold.

From the couple of posts that I have seen from you I conclude that you have had a variety of experiences and writing the book must have been a lot of work but a lot of fun.

I know that book publishing is changing with new technology and trends, for example, ebooks becoming a larger part of the market, but I still like the feel of a book in my hands. But I am also finding out that small publishers still exist. I find out about their books from the authors from places like scuba board and the www almost as often as I do from scanning the websites of Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Many of these books on diving seem to come out of the UK, just as aviation books did when I was a student many years ago. Back then, I made friends with a bookseller in downtown San Jose who understood that I was a student with a limited budget. One day I walked by the store on my way to the bus stop but did not stop in. The bookseller must have seen me and he came out to tell me that he had a chance to get a certain title for me at a good discount and asked if I would be interested. I mourn the loss of the independent bookseller in many places, but there still are a few around. I try to seek them out whenever I get to a city that has one.

You're right. There are still a good few small specialist publishers in the UK. The one who did mine is a one woman band. Seafarer Books they are called. She's done a fantastic job of it, well I'm really pleased with it.
She used to do just sailing books but since mine, has branched out into anything sea related.
I was determined to get published and I would have gone on to self publish if I couldn't get a mainstream one. But, there is no way I could have afforded to fill it with colour photo's, charts, drawing etc like she has. And she had a great artist sort out the cover, which I couldn't of done.
As for the independent booksellers, they are a dieing breed.
How can you tell how many of my books Sheridan have sold>

If you goolge "Winston Churchill quotes", the list of gems is so long, it's hard to imagine that they came from the mind of one man. This guy was as sharp as a tack. My favorite Churchill quote goes as follows:

Nancy Astor: “Sir, if you were my husband, I would give you poison.”
Churchill: “If I were your husband I would take it.”
:rofl3:

They don't make polititians like this anymore.:(

You trying to get a quote or meaningful speech out of any politician, on either side of the pond nowadays!

One that means something would be nice, one that makes you laugh, unlikely, one that makes you think .... Not going to happen.

This is how they used to do it!

4 June 1940

"I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.

At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of His Majesty's Government-every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation.

The British Empire and the French Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.

Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the ******* and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."

Tony I must congratulate you with this book, I enjoyed reading it immensely. Being an ex Navy diver myself, I can relate to many of the stories and scenarios. Without you putting in the time and effort to write such a masterpiece, all those stories would be gone and lost forever. Well done.
Do you have any plans to write more? If so cant wait to read your next book.
