Does anybody know of a place where I can get the battery replaced in my old USD M2 computer? I just found out this week that they are no longer supported, so factory replacement of the battery is out of the question. The display in this thing is fading quickly, and I would like to try to salvage it.

I do have a new Suunto Cobra I'm using now, so it's not like I'm dependent on this thing. But it is a nice backup. In other words, I'm NOT interested in upgrading. I just want to get a new battery in this old M2 I have.

M2? Is that the one that Uwatec made for USD? If so, you can send it to Scubapro/Uwatec, and they can replace the battery. However, I should warn you that it is pricey, and I sent one back for a battery change, and the LCD screen was still messed up after. So, consider it wisely. Maybe its time to let it rest in peace. I seem to recall that the battery change was over $100.

If you're talking about the rectangular shaped Monitor II, we did a search on the net and found 1 place in the states that does the battery replacement, but it's $75 plus shipping ... not the most cost effective choice.

On the other hand, with some skill and patience, you can do it yourself. You'll need to dig the old battery out carefully. Clean the old potting compound off the plastic sides of the battery area in the compartment and be carefull of the wires. Installation is the opposite. It takes a 3.6 volt AA size lithium battery. (Tadiran TL2100) Radio Shack has them for about $13.

My roomate's is going on 2 years since I did hers.

Darlene, many thanks for this advice. I just dug the battery out of my wife's old M2, soldered in a new TL2100 battery, and did my best to re-seal with compound. The unit is working on dry land, which already feels like an accomplishment. I'll probably apply some extra compound later, out of an abundance of caution, and this weekend I'll test it underwater. Thanks again!

Thought I'd throw this out ...just in case anyone is interested. I have a USD M2 with both the console with cover (SPG and Compass) and wrist mount and I don't use it any more. Had battery replaced once (while it was still relatively easy) a while back and have dove with it about 4 times since. No telling how much battery life is left but fired it up the other day and it still registers as having plent of charge. Bought it new and have all the original documentation. Shoot me a PM if interested.
