What is the procedure for getting a new battery for the Cobalt 1?

Anyone from AA out there?

Was kinda hoping that they monitored the boards. Will contact them directly...

As you know, the Cobalt is a factory sealed unit and the battery is not user changeable. Contact them directly for best results.

Atomic Aquatics

Not entirely true. It's not a difficult task to unscrew the back and pop the battery cover off, and the battery itself is plug & play as long as AA is willing to send you a new one. Make sure the compartment o-ring is clean and put it back together. Might want to check/clean the overpressure ball valve while you're in there.

The official line is that the battery is a dealer service item, as in your local Atomic dealer.

But what Dr. Lecter says is true- the Cobalt battery is identified as dealer changeable rather than user changeable only because: 1) the battery is not off the shelf, and has a custom connector- it has to come from Atomic; and 2) it's an opportunity to go over the computer, check seals, and update anything that needs it. With the generally long lifespan of these batteries, very few dealers have had occasion to change one. However opening the battery compartment and replacing the battery is no more difficult than opening a camera housing or any other dive computer. The battery compartment is sealed from the rest of the electronics and you don't expose anything else by opening it.

If you have the time, sending it back to Atomic is not a bad option, as they will check the computer out thoroughly.

In November of 2013 I wanted to spend my 50th B-Day diving in "warm" waters and not in the Aquarium in Denver. So I cashed in some air miles and booked my first trip to the Keys...in Florida

I had not used my Cobalt in about 6-8 months and when I tried to charge the battery it would not hold a charge. I called Atomic and spoke to the technician. I told him my issue with the Cobalt and that I had a dive trip in two weeks. He provided me with a voucher to mail my computer to CA and have the battery looked at. In about a week I had a brand new Cobalt on my front porch...much to my great surprise and pleasure that I would be using in Florida.

I do not know if they replace everyone's computer for a battery change, or if they were accommodating "MY" dive needs, or some other reason unbeknown to me. But the service I received from Atomic was second to none and I will always be a grateful customer.

Over this past Christmas a friend of mine's battery went dead also after a prolong non-use and he has had equally great service from Atomic. Even way out here in the South Pacific on a small military base.

All that I can suggest is call Atomic's customer service and give them a chance to assist you. :yeahbaby:

Good luck & happy bubbles.

Atomic's service is great- but they wouldn't replace a computer for just a dead battery. My guess is that there was some other problem that caused the battery to not hold a charge, or a leaking battery had damaged connections internally. That said, they will bend over backwards to help customers.

Ron, What is the customer service number?

Atomic's Main: (714) 375-1433 That will get you into a fancy telephone system for Huish Outdoors, which may not land you in Costa Mesa right away- but just ask for Atomic Cobalt service. A more direct path might be to email Adan, who is in Atomic Cobalt service: adan.campos@huishoutdoors.com
