Had another accident yesterday during the ostensibly simple operation of rolling off the damn boat.

When scuba diving, I am always a little apprehensive about the back roll because I have seen something getting caught on the boat during the back roll and things getting broken, lost or people hurt. About 3 years ago, (when my reef hook which was attached to the scooter got caught on the gunnel) it ripped my biceps so bad that I couldn't curl a 30 lb weight for almost a year. It was killing me the whole dive. My arm still doesn't look right/symmetrical.

Yesterday was snorkeling, just a pole spear in my hand so not too much to manage and keep clear. Somehow, the small dive light I had clipped to a d-ring on my weightbelt, dropped perfectly into a rod holder (recess) on the gunnel as I was sitting (or as I rolled).

As soon as I began the roll, I felt the problem, but there was nothing I could do. I got a very strong yank from my belt and luckily the silicone (freeedive belt) ripped at one of the holes and tore cleanly and I was not injured by the yank. I even saved the belt!

I can mess up the simple act of falling off the boat! Watch out for danglies when doing back rolls!

It's easy to catch gear when rolling backwards off a boat. I caught my reel on something and it ripped the D ring right off the BCD. Reel stayed on the boat, I did the dive without it.

Now I double check that nothing's going to get caught up when I roll.

I saw a guy fasten the beavertail of his wetsuit around the handrail on a boat, and then try to roll off backwards. He kinda hung there for awhile until we could stop laughing and help him up.
You owe me for the Diet Pepsi that just shot out of my nose!

If that wasn’t on an episode of Mr Bean, it should be.
