Hello, I am about to start my OWC Class, but i'm sort of scared about all the math involved with the tables and the like (Memorizing numbers isn't necessarily my thing). Is my fear reasonable or am I just being a nervous nelly?

I probably hate math more than you, but that is what the tables help with. Once you learn the flow of them, they are easy to use.

It ain't rocket science, you'll manage...

I don't think it's unusual to be a bit nervous going in to it. Nervousness can be a good thing too. Be attentive to your instructor. As for the math involved....there's generally not much and it's pretty basic. You don't have to memorize the tables. Numbers aren't particularly my thing either and I'm picking away at my divemaster cert.

no harder to use than a kitchen table,no problem enjoy your new found addiction

The recreational courses are designed to help you get through them, and the written exams are written so that 10 year-olds can pass them. The certification agencies actually benefit when you pass the course, so they want you to pass. Keep the communications open with your instructor, and don't be embarrassed to ask questions. You don't have to memorize tables or learn any tricky math. Keep it simple and remember most diving is learned in the water, not in the classroom. Just relax and have fun because the courses are meant to be fun. You will be hooked when you start diving!

It's not quite like the "old days" when we'd read about needing to recite the dive tables. Now you plan your dive, perhaps bring a waterproof table on the dive if there is a chance of complexity.

If you can do your tax return you can......... never mind, bad example.

Good luck and remember to ask questions, you can do this.

Pete

Its only addition and rounding numbers off to the nearest tenth. If you passed 3 grade math you can do the tables.
