Gee, I would be taking a full suit instead of shorties. We did the Belize itinerary in December and although the water was in the upper 70's, the 4 dives a day really sucked the heat outta me and I was very happy I had taken my 5mil full suit.
========================================
Couldn't agree more. Nice to have the shortie for a break but multiple days of rep dives are a real drain. It's one more thing to drag along but we actually take both a shortie and a 3/2 full suit and a hooded vest on the liveaboard in March in Belize.

In January I brought a 3 and a 5 fullsuit because I was concerned about the repetetive diving. I used the 3 for all of my dives except two night dives and that was only because I had the 5 and it was dry. I was actually hot in the 5. I would say that I did not see anyone on my trip diving a shortie. I think that a shortie may not be enough but that depends on the person.

re shortie, did my last liveaboard in 26 degree water in the 1/2 shortie and was very comfortable while everyone around me was in full suits. Have been diving off Ambergrise in the same shortie and was also quite comfortable. If I'm in warm water I want as little as possible. Just in case I have my 7 mil hood which makes a huge difference re core temp maintenance. Don't find the arms and legs really make that much difference re keeping me warm at these temperatures. Appreciate the thoughts. My only other choice is a dry suit which I am NOT taking:D

All great ideas, so far, though I wouldn't worry about taking things to entertain you during the downtime 'cuz the comraderie and converations were some of the best parts of the trips.

For the camera, if it's digital, be prepared with lots of memory cards or a way to download during the week. Your laptop is certainly one option, but if you have a video iPod, Apple sells a USD$30 adaptor that will let you direct-connect your digital camera and download/store/view your photos on the iPod for later transfer to your PC(as long as you're not shooting RAW).

BTW, we did the Nekton in May with temps on the computers from 73 - 79 degrees and my son was fine in his shortie the whole week. Me, I used my 3mil full.

P.S.- thanks for loving TURTLES - I make 'em for a living here in Toronto!

One last thing - no need to worry about $'s for tips on board, they're more than happy to take your credit card for such things!

Now that I like, I hate carrying that much cash.

ScubaLuke:
I've started taking two computers on these trips. I had one fail completely on the first Nekton Belize trip I went on. Luckily somebody had one I was able to borrow for the rest of the trip.

That's the whole reason I didn't sell my old Nitrox computer and hung on to it... to use it as a spare especially on liveaboard trips.

I would not hesitate to take your laptop, I did. It is nice to be able to look at your pictures larger than say an i-pod. You have power in your cabin so it is not a problem to charge. One thing to be careful of is bringing your laptop out of your cool cabin into the much warmer, esp when cooking lounge area due to lots of condensation. They also have a photo contest at the end of the week and with the laptop you can easily pick the ones that you want to enter. All of then pics in my gallery are from my last Nekton trip, we ran into a pod of dophins which was very cool.

You will love it. Great ideas by other readers, gave me some great ideas for the Cayman trip we are taking on May 13, on the Nekton, which I posted. Thanks!! I wear socks under my booties so they do not rub my feet raw over the week. We wear a hood for protection from the jellyfish & helps keep us warm for many dives..I usually take rechargable battereis for my camera, which is lots of fun. You can rent a camera on board if you want to.

I look foreward to hearing about your Caymen trip. A group of us did Belize in January on Nekton and had a great time so we booked Caymen for next January.
