Congratulations!!! I'm soooo jealous!! :D Make sure you post a trip report when you return.

Also, don't be surprised if you are NOT wiped out by Friday afternoon. We found our Nekton trip to be the most relaxing and restful vacation we've ever taken and easily could have stayed another week on board.

If you are planning the Nekton you will have enjoyable diving but you may want to ask if they have booked kids on your cruise. We had the experience (September 06) of a Nekton cruise greatly diminished by 3 unruly young teens. This made it difficult to enjoy any adult time and the divemaster in the water was essentially unavailable to any other guests as he had the full time job of guiding the most uncontrolled teen who then touched as much sea life as possible without reprimand. The staff was great but NEVER again will I get stuck on a liveaboard under these circumstances. If the diving wasn't so good I would have headed for shore by day 2. Despite pointed criticism Nekton did not feel the need to offer any inducement to me to rejoin them in the future. Next liveaboard will definitely be with another company.

I did Nekton on the Rorqual in the Caymans on May (first live aboard). Had a great time, crew was great, food was great, and most importantly diving were great.

On Oct. 21 I am going on the Pilot in Belize. Can't wait! The pilot was just refurbished.

All previous posts great advice, pack less clothes, power strip, extension cord. Bring a good book for SI, or ipod.

Have a great time on the 28th. and leave the 483's in NY

Thanks Jay - Enjoy your trip too, by the way I grew up in Brooklyn, Marine Park area, moved to Westchester after college about 1980. Seems like half the world is from Brooklyn!

Joe,

Thanks I will definitely enjoy. I am in the MRI biz, so I know all about 483's.

All those who responded - are there many single guests on these trips you have taken? (my wife does not dive - but is super about letting me loose once a year).

On our trip out of 12 divers, 2 were singles. They buddied up together sometimes and other times with one of the staff.

As to the post about teenagers ruining a vacation, I hope you called the folks at the Nekton office and talked with them about it.

The two times I have gone there was a mix. Mostly couples or poeple travelling together, but singles as well - so far there has always been someone to buddy with. Ended up a team of three last trip as there were three singles and 4 buddy teams so that was the best solution for all. Worked out reasonably well. I carry a camera so was the slow diver.

Same for me, my wife does not dive, one of the reasons I wanted to try a live-aboard. Have been diving alone in the Keys, usually it was not a problem on the dive boat but at night it was a little rough. I am thinking this may be a better option. Will let you know in a few weeks!
