Got a old ikelite housing i have diy, to work with my e-420. But the housing
Has been stripped for strobe parts/connectors.
And i need a good but affordable strobe that can work with my rig.
Can wireless be the way to go? Ok strobes?

Or what parts do i need to use a wire connected strobe :-?

Been takeing pics with a diy slave strobe for a year, but i feel i need something better now. That one is also dead now. :-P

Please help me out:-)
I would like to buy used mainly, but everything goes :-)

Thanks.
Ronni

Hi Ronni,

Are you using the Ikelite housing for the E420....or another housing you have DIY to fit the E420?

I had the Ike housing for the E410/420/450....and used it with fibre optic cable. I have the Inon Z240...and the ikelite synch cable, but i prefered the FO since the Ike cable was giving me alot of trouble.

Hey :-)No not the e420 housing. Its a old nikon film camera housing i modded.

you can go wireless via fiber optics, but you would have to mask much of the front of the housing, except for a part where the fiber optic cable will see into the housing. you probably have to make some baffles so that the flash from the camera doesn't bounce around inside and into the lens. From there, the strobe could be either the manual type, the type with its own built in light sensor, or simulates TTL flash, but it has to be compatible with your camera.

As for using a wired cable, the hot shoe adapter inside the housing would be used, along with an ikelite cable, but since the hot shoe adapter is probably old school and doesn't have all the TTL contacts, whatever strobe you hook up to, it will likely be a manual unit.

If the housing has a TTL connection then you can get a cable from the flash provider. Assuming you want to go TTL. I would look to either getting a flash from Inon or Sea N Sea. I guess it will depend on your pocket.

You might also be able to rig up a FO cable to the front of your housing port assuming there is space for the flash to be up. As this is the least cost option I would try this first.

well i would like to go TTL..

Soo any strobe with FO will work with the camera :?
think i understand more about how the FO work now.

Can you give some links to possible strobes that will work ?

thanks
