I just got my OW certification the other day and I'm really wanting to go ahead and get my equipment (i realize that most recommend renting, but I really don't want to go that route). Anyway, I live in upstate SC and I was wondering if any of you (who are familiar with this area) would recommend Bermuda Triangle or the Anderson Scuba shop for my equipment needs (BC, reg., and PDC) or is there any shops you would recommend in the area. Also, any recommendations on gear... I'm thinking about a Zeagle Ranger BC, but I really have no idea about PDC's or regs. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I only rented for one trip, and even then I was diving my training BC & Reg which were far better than most rentals. Go for it, it's only money.

For a PDC, you really can't beat the Oceanic VEO. User friendly, greatly customer service, and if you want more conservatism - dial it in. Buy a conservative comp and you're stuck. ;)

Congrats on your OW. There are lots of reviews on Scuba Diving magazine - should be some online. You should be safe with all gear that has favorable reviews. Then determine how much you are willing to spend.

Many of the recommendations to rent are for people who aren't certified yet. If you really want to buy gear now I'd say go for it, just take your time at least a little and do your research. There are tons of threads on this site you can read about different gear.

Don't overlook all the online folks....most are an authorized dealer on equipment they sell and reasonably priced

It's funny you should say that... I just bought some gear from scubatoys... but I still plan to visit the dive shops for some things.

Pm sent w/some Zeagle feedback.

Please visit the Zeagle manufacturer's section for some more feedback on Zeagle products:

Scott, feel free to toss my kicker for the Zeagle bump any time. Just kidding, you know I've got to back what I dive!

It is nice to try out equipment before you buy. I think you learn to dive better with your own stuff. I borrowed some equipment during my OW dives and bought right away.

I tried most of the things I purchased minus the octo... so I'm pretty comfortable with what I got... but we'll know soon enough.
