I am fairly new to diving. I own none of my own equipment and need some advice on a BC. I have used a ScubaPro Night Hawk in a pool, some unknown brands in a quarry and the ocean, and a Zeagle Scout Limited in a quarry. By far, I preferred the Zeagle. Any thoughts on this, or other BC's to consider.

I went through this process early this year. I bought the Zeagle Stiletto. It is a tough, relatively inexpensive back-inflate BC. It now has over 100 dives on it and I would buy one again.

BC are kind of a personal decision. Some people like back inflation, some like the full jacket to inflate. Some prefer backplate and wings. Your best bet is to try several and see which one you like best for the type of diving you do that is in your price range. I am looking into backplate and wings myself.

Thanks. Lots to think about, which is exactly what I need!!!

You are going to hear predominantly two answers to this question. One is buy a BP/W (Back Plate and Wing), the other is to get a Zeagle. That doesn't mean there aren't other good BCD's out there, those just seem to be the most popular answers on ScubaBoard. I personally own a Zeagle Brigade (a Zeagle only sold by ScubaToys.com) which is their Ranger harness and the Escape bladder. I believe the Zeagle Stilleto is very similar to the Brigade.

TXHockeyGuy is right about the two answers you will probably get. I again like the Brigade also. There are also lots of other nice BC's that will not be mentioned and if you like you should try others but, it sounds as if you have already dove with a Zeagle and liked it so.... maybe that would be a good place to start your search.

If you do a search, you will be able to find lots of informative information on this site, enough to make your hair hurt. In that search you will find a previous message from me attesting to the tremendous use that we at the Florida Aquarium put on all Zeagle products, including several of their BC's. In a year, we probably simulate at least 10 years of the average rec diver and they really do hold up well. If you get the correct size, you will be able to easily fine tune it's comfort and trim and will probably end up with a BC that is as close to a BP/W as you can get and still have a lot of the features of a BC.

Zeagle Brigade!
