I guess it is the knowledge review at the end of the book. If you have these 2 pages, please let me know. I hate to buy a new book if this one is in perfect condition minus 1 page. Thanks.

There's a reason PADI generally insists on the original knowledge review pages: they expect all students to purchase original materials. When I got my EANx cert I handed in a nice formatted printed document with all of the questions retyped, and detailed answers. The instructor said that was fine then had me rip the pages out of my - new - book and trash them.

Good luck!

Why did you trash them? If you have purchased a book you should be free to do what you want with it.

Agreed...your book... not anyone else's.

That's a rather irrational and reactionary mindset, IMHO ... I think I would personally be done with that instructor.

If PADI didn't have some scheme for limiting the value of used copies, they simply wouldn't be selling the books at all. Each dive shop would have one copy and they would just pass it around.

Part of the cost of taking the course is purchasing the materials - new, original, materials. At least that's the way it's supposed to work. A Nitrox crewpack ($65) and video ($24) are usually required materials. In fact, without the crewpack, how would a student get the dive tables? These clearly don't want to be shared. Everyone should have that DSAT table and the 32%/36% dive tables are pretty handy as well. I suppose they could buy them separately. But why?

I think it would be better if the shop just increased the cost for the class and included new materials. No exceptions, but the whole package or nothing. The reason I think they should do this is that, I agree, you own the book. Just like any other textbook.

However, just like any textbook, you should be able to sell it back at the end of the semester. Of course, next semester that textbook will be obsolete and worthless but I digress.

In any event, the book is $25 (new at DixieDivers) so hardly a big deal in the context of diving.
