I second the overhand knot under tie wrap method. Mine have been that way for a long time and they've managed to stay on when I forget to remove the bungee before the tank (always seems to amuse other people, that). I also use a heavier bungee than alot of people; I think it's 3/16". I think it helps keep the reg centered. I also set the knot with superglue. Mine are all 19" long. That's fairly tight.

I don't see any need for a breakaway. If I should need to the necklace gets cut, and I can do that plenty fast enough.

think about where the risk(s) are.....

If the hose gets fouled, the weak link won't help you.
If the reg gets fouled under your neck, you probably have bigger problems :)

In any event, you should be able to cut the bungee in an emergency, no?
Sure.
But I want to be able to just rip it free. And it's mine so that's the way I do it.

Note that the fisherman's knot set-up will let you pull the reg off of the necklace if pull hard on it. Also, after diving it for about about 40 dives, it has never "popped out" accidentally underwater.

I've been using the fisherman's knot on mine and my reg hasn't slipped out or come off in over 100 dives.
