Need help with wing choice

My wife & I are getting the Transpac XT.

We are currently AOW certified but are very keen on pursuing cave and wreck diving.

I'm thinking of saving cost & getting a wing that can work reasonably well for our current & future needs.

I'm thinking of the REC XT wing for both of us.

However the DS rep said that this wing might not be suitable for wife as the drag will be too much when diving single tank.

She's 157cm and about 55kg.

Need some advice on both our choices thanks.

I recon it's really too much wing for single tank at 45lbs lift.
I have a Dive Rite Voyager EXP wing (35lbs lift) and normally dive a 120CF high pressure steel tank in a 7mm wetsuit. I find that a little larger than I would prefer though it has more than enough lift should I need to add a decent sized stage or slung pony.

Looks like a solid enough choice if you'll be mostly using doubles though.

If cave is in your future, don't try to save by buying one less wing. To be able to execute a cave dive safely, the cost of training, equipment, gas, .. will make the cost of a new wing in your future feels like peanuts.

At this point you should buy a wing best for your current diving. A good dedicated single tank wing, lift between 25-35lb depending on your exposure suit. It may sounds un-intuitive, but wing lift is really mostly a function of exposure suit, not your physical height and weight.

Hi White Sands,
The Rec XT may be a bit much for your wife while diving singles, but probably the perfect wing for doubles down the road. If you are on an extreme budget you could go ahead and put her in a Rec Xt now, but if you can afford it I would say go with a travel or voyager wing now and upgrade later. The nice thing about the Transpac is that you will only have to upgrade the wing, not the whole system.
