I have stayed on Ambergris and enjoyed SunBreeze Hotel and San Pedro. You can walk just about anywhere to town its right there and so is the airport which SunBreeze bellman meet you at airport and carry your bags right out the gate to hotel across the street. the dive operator is good and so is the diving not even a 10 min boat ride just past the break of the wall. it wasn't hard to sign up for the ruins or any other tours i did. there are several great local restaurnats to eat at but the one on site SunBreeze is the best. got to go to the chicken drop was fun but a late night entertainment. I've also been on Turneffe FLats and your isolated for sure but the diving was great so was the food but no place to go. I'm heading to Placencia May 9-16 to check out that area haven't been there yet. You might also look into Hamansi resort on the mainland very close to diving and ruins etc.

if i can help you make your trip plans let me know, be glad to help.
