I would go with the Deepoutdoors package. Excellent company, excellent product!! You will not be sorry with a purchase from them.

Are there any more DeepOutdoors, OMS, or Poseidon users here?

By now we are sure that single weave / hog harness is the “weapon" of choice by many users here, but not for me at least at this point of life… I tried a single weave harness (Deep Outdoors btw) once or twice and didn't see much advantage over the use of padded harness with the plate. To me both felt the same in the watter. Only padded style harness (D.O. Freedom, OMS Comfort, etc) felt a lot more comfortable and user friendly. Also, I just refuse to believe that quick release buckles have a tendency to fail. I repeat tendency. If you make this assumption then 2" webbing would fail too. I am exaggerating, of course on both counts here but to make any sense buckles must have the same load rating as the webbing and we are talking thousands of pound-force here.

Thanks

Feel free to waste your money as you see fit. You're clearly not here for suggestions. Good luck.

A buckle's load rating doesn't keep them from breaking when (for instance) a rocking boat or careless diver drops a set of HP100s on it, but suit yourself. I've only heard of that happening a handfull of times, so it's likely it won't be an issue for you. Of course, if it is, you might be suprised at how quickly the Hogarthian "point in your life" arrives.

Ok Rainer, this has been bothering me for the most of yesterday but I will reply... I rarely let anyone talk or write to me in this tone, unless you my father, but I will let it slide just because this is supposed to be a friendly community of SCUBA practitioners helping each other. Anyway I’ve been noticing that you are often rude to other people on this board but let it stay on your own conscience.

DSS, TDL, Halcyon, Oxycheq are all great companies with awesome product lines and large following… nevertheless after reading everyone’s posts, talking to the divers and guys at the club and a couple of shops and no matter how much I tried to justify their product line for myself they’re not going to working out.

Here is my motto when it comes to buying stuff: It’s not always best to just save money sometimes things like local support, local customer loyalty, manufacturer situation etc come to play. I will demonstrate it using OMS example. OMS is a local company for me almost (its in Montgomery NY same place where Orange County Choppers are), lots of people use it around here, most of local shops will service it and repair if needed on factory warranty and it seems to have a good track record. Not the same but very similar situation with the Deep Outdoors products. Besides, OMS, Deep Outdoors, DUI, Riptide, and a couple of others are all designed and manufacturer by the same OEM guy - “Custom Buoyancy”. Deep Outdoors is basically very similar to OMS but just a lot better looking stuff if that means anything. Many things on DO seem a bit better thought through and usable. Weight system on DO, for example, is really nicely designed and made.
Poseidon, however, is in its own class and was put in this thread as a counterweight. So lets get back to prices:

DSS Single tank rig that consist of:
  • Pro-Fit Stainless Back Plate
  • Pro-Fit Harness
  • LCD 30 Wing
  • Pair of plastic Cam Straps and Wedge Blocks
Sells through DDS website at a special Package Price of $499.00 – Very nice price for a very nice package. However, lets add the missing parts. Just to illustrate my point I am going to use Leisure Pro prices as they are among the lowest and easy to check. You can use other prices from authorized dealers and the price will be about 10-15% higher.
Single tank adapter no bands: $59.95, two “No SAG” Weight Pockets 2*$60.78 = $121.56, Crotch Strap $8.95, Back Pad for backplate = $47.48. I am not counting an inflator hose and trim weight pockets (5lbs each) because I already have those. The total comes out to $736.94

Now lets take a look at the same package but using OMS components quoted to me:
1. OMS Harness with one quick release
2. OMS Stainless Steel Backplate
3. OMS Back pad for backplate (I do dive in T-shirt sometimes)
4. OMS 45lbs Wing’
5. OMS Single Tank Adaptor
6. OMS Cambands with Stainless Steel buckles
7. OMS No-sag weight / utility pockets – two
8. OMS Crotch strap
Total price for the package delivered and assembled: $708.65

So the utility of the price differential can be dismissed, and other less tangible factors such as the ones as I described earlier outweigh everything else. Price for the Deep Outdoors package with the same components $725. Poseidon fully assembled and with weight pockets and utility pocket comes to almost same price as DSS package from above – $670.87
Thanks

Dude, you clearly have NO idea what you're talking about. LOL. Does DSS need a STA? Nope. But you clearly haven't read up on their gear... Weight pockets? Yeah, that's real tech... Get a weight belt. $5. Crotch strap? Yeah, that's included in the DSS kit. Clearly states this on the website. And get a hog harness. That reduces the price to $455. Andd $5 for a weight belt. $460. You could do with some more research before making silly posts like this.

Do you get off on posting things like this? This board is for education. Well done, you are officially a silly_post_free scubaboard member. :rofl3:

Rainer:
Education does entail doing even a modicum of research. You get an F.
Ok dude whatever, i will play by your rules no matter much rediculous they are. Besides neither OMS nor DO require STA, i just like to have one.

DSS Take out weight system, STA, Crotch Strap, leave back pad = 546.48
OMS Same change just leave the crotch strap = 527.14
