Hello all,

During my last diving trip, I manage to use my fin once to slowly back-up while hovering when I was too close to my DM. Another time, I did a 45 degree turn with only my fins while both my hands on my back. Problem is, I cannot recall how I did those moves. Any help on how to do these is greatly appreciated.

There's a few videos here:

The key is trim. If you're in horizontal trim the backwards kick and the helicopter turn are MUCH easier. The advice that clicked with me regarding the backwards kick was to do a frog kick in reverse.

Thanks for the link man. I'll try them out during my next dive in slightly more than 2 weeks.

backing up
frog kick backwards or just spread your legs apart

turn
push down on one fin and up on the other

these both work really well with paddle fins, and less with splits
