Hello I have been fascinated by diving since I was little and I now want to get certified. I live in Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley to be exact and there are so many places that offer certification. I want to choose the best place possible, does anyone have any recommendations? Any info will help, also I have looked at a place called aloha dove in Woodland Hills wondering if anyone has any experiance with them?

Hi and welcome to the board!

If you go to the board's main forum page, you'll see that there are a number of forums dedicated to each georgraphical area. There is, in fact, a specific forum for Southern California. You might try posting this request in that forum (or ask a mod to move this thread to that forum) and I bet you'll get some people familiar with your area to give you a hand.

Hope that helps and, again, welcome to ScubaBoard. You've chosen a great sport that can last a lifetime!

Welcome to the board.

First, welcome aboard. There is a lot of good info to be found here and lots of helpful folks. Congrats on your decision to get certified. Its a great sport whose main side effect is that it become rather addiciting in a very short time!

You may want to check out the sections for dive groups (California Kelp Divers), you'll probably find someone familiar with your area.

One of the most important factors when getting certified is for you to find an instructor that you are comfortable with. There are many skills that you will learn during your training and you may not be at ease with all of them (ie mask clearing). Having an understanding and dedicated instructor that will take the time to work with you is important.

Hopefully one of our California divers can give you some insight on the shop of your choice. Good luck with you classes when they start and don't forget to let us know how you make out with them!

Heaven forbid that I request someone use proper punctuation, grammar, and spelling, so that I may understand the thoughts and ideas they wish to convey. This person's post was one entire run-on string.
I probably wouldn't have said anything, but the thread I clicked on before this one had periods at the end of what were obviously questions. It is turning into a trend.

The right move here would be for you to say that you could have made that point in a slightly more friendly way to someone who is totally new to the board...we would forget it and everyone would move on. Your call.
