hey everyone, I have a question/need advice, and wanted to see if anyone here can help, I hope this is the right forum... I'm brand new to the sport, and want to purchase my own gear before I get certified so I get trained with my own equipment. I found this listing on craigslist, and if anyone could take a look and tell me weather it looks like a good deal or not, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks to all in advance!

Brandon

Keep in mind that any gear you purchase should be checked out before diving it. This is especially important for a brand new diver and used gear. There are lots of threads here on the board about the pros and cons of buying gear before you really know what it is you want.

I would just dive with the rental gear and read this board before I buy gear. I'd say 90% of first time buyers, buy stuff the replace later...like the person on craigslist :)

Learn from others and buy right the first time, this stuff is expensive. Rather spend the money on flight tickets to great dive destinations!

I started with used gear that lasted me for several years. It was inexpensive and saved me the money of renting. This worked out well for me, because it gave me the time to find out I really loved diving and the time to really learn about equipment, so when it came time for me to buy new gear I was able to make a more informed purchasing decision.
If you buy used, make sure the regulators and BC are serviced before you ever use them.
There are some good buys to be found on craigslist, but I have seen gear so old it should be in a museum.

Join an active dive club and try different equipment, it all feels different and can work different and will certainly come with different pricetags.
Get a good new Mask, Snorkel and Fins and then go from there. Try not to buy too much stuff second hand.
Go to your LDS and check out what is on offer.

Do you have a link to the craigslist post?

Carrie

He's a new poster. He can't add links yet until he's made more posts.

And NO! you can't buy the tanks and YES! the wetsuits are already pee'd in! :rofl3:

of course i forgot to put the CL link... here it is... of course I'll get everthing professionally checked before I use it, I mainly would like to know if the brands are any good, or if I'm wasting my time...
thanks again everyone!

I dont see anything wrong with the brands, although the gear wouldnt be my personal choice.

My biggest concern would be whether all the gear was sized appropriately since it's coming as a package.

I'd still advocate waiting on gear purchase til you have the opportunity to try some stuff and decide what you like and what you don't. Almost every new diver has had closet full of stuff they changed or upgraded from at some point.

I have to agree with the advice to try several types of gear before making a big purchase. Get your own mask fins and snorkel (be guided by your instructor) at the start of the course and then wait a little before getting the rest (I bought mine after 20 dives and the only thing I still use is my SK7 compass i ended up changing everthing else!!!)
