Hi All:

Now that you clicked on this post to see what it was about, THANKS!

Lynnhaven Dive Center has an Openwater Certification (God bless 'em) trip out to Lake Rawlings Quarry scheduled for Saturday, February 10, leaving Virginia Beach at 8:00 AM. That probably puts us there around 10 to 11 AM.

I'm "tagging" along to test dive my drysuit and could sure use a buddy if someone from this board is available. Temps there have been below freezing lately but it is supposed to "warm" up to the 50s on the 10th and 11th according to the long-range forecast.

If someone wants to meet earlier in the day, or meet at a stopping point along the way (I'm not sure what route Lynnhaven is planning to take, I usually take 58 to 712 to 1), I could do that too.

Lynnhaven may also cancel the trip depending on conditions and Rawlings charges for at least 4 divers to open on the weekend, so if something changes we would have to call and make arrangements...

Anyone up for this??

THANKS!

I'm not certified to dive yet, nor have I taken any courses yet.

I may just want to tag along to help out topside and to get a feel for the quarry.

I'll check with my wife and see.

I might be interested in joining you there. My wife has family coming in town this weekend, but they are doing the shopping thing on Saturday (typical women LOL) so I might be able to slide out for Saturday.
I would probably just meet out there so I could leave when I needed without conflicting with anyone else's plans.
You planning at least 2 dives, correct.

Hey Rad!

Oh yeah, 2 dives (assuming I don't get WET in my DRY suit). It would be great if you wanted to go because I could go without Lynnhaven and we could do our own thing...

I know Lynnhaven has at least 4 going so that opens the lake, unless they cancel. They told me to call on Friday and confirm (which I'll do just so they know I'm going..)

Anyway, I'll PM you with my contact info so we can talk...

THANKS!

When it warms up.

Hi Guys:

I talked to Mark with Lynnhaven last night and we are GO for Saturday. He told me that they did NOT require a deposit from him which probably means that at least 4 other divers have already opened the quarry. He did warn me however, that the quarry staff might NOT be there early to open up (he wasn't sure).

I'm planning on leaving at 07:00 AM and I know Rad wants to be there by 09:00 AM. Rad, I got your number so if anything changes, I'll call. The weather still looks good, but the highs will only be in the 40s and probably the 30s when we get there. :11:

Bvmjethead, if you're planning on coming I've linked a map below (Lake Rawlings is in the 12 o'clock position slightly above the red star). The road in (Quarry Lane) is dirt and NASTY, and it's a little bit of a drive. Just keep going and look for the signs. Eventually, you will see a gate and when you go through the gate the dive shop will be directly ahead. Go inside, tell them you came to check the place out and watch some buddies dive (Rob and Andy), sign in and ask them how to get to the Quarry. I don't think they will charge you, but your guess is as good as mine.

See you guys up there!

I was one of the four from Lynnhaven who made the trip. It was great! I hope to go again soon, and if anyone is looking for a dive buddy for some local diving let me know. I'm pretty new at this, but looking to get more experience.

Very cool, did you finish your cert? I tend to make lots of trips off the Va. Beach coast, keep an eye on this forum I usually post that Im going & dive report. My wife doesnt dive in Va. Beach so Im always looking for buddies.
Were you the 1 in the Big H, plate & harness?

I wasn't doing a cert, just tagging along with the others who were. I'm getting back into diving after 8 years off. I did the pool refresher last month, but wanted to do some more practice diving in the quarry before venturing off into something offshore, especially in the winter. I was the knucklehead in the wetsuit, vice drysuit like everyone else. Actually it worked out fine. I recently bought a brand-new H2Odyssey 7mm "semi-dry" wetsuit with "titanium glideskin" and hood on ebay. Only $125.00. Surprisingly it worked as advertised and the only thing that was cold was my hands due to my crappy gloves. Anyway, I would love to do some local diving, of the kind where I am not gone overnight. We just had a baby in December, so traveling is not an option until probably mid-summer. I'm even happy smimming around Rawlings for now if you are heading out there again. Let me know, and I will try to get my wife to give me another pass :) Regards, Rob.
