My wife and I have been diving for about 4 years and, this week, purchased a house in Trujillo. We'll be coming down in Nov to do some "cosmetic" work on the house and need any information on diving in the local area, easiest way to get to the Bay islands, closest dive shop, etc. Any local divers in the area, please contact us at cw5nadeau@yahoo.com.

Thanks!
Mike

I was just in Trujillo last month. There is not any dive shops there (that I could find. . .). You may possibly be able to hire a boat to take you out. Unfortunately there is really not a reef on this part of the coast (shy from garbage that has been dumped and has established as an artificial reef). You may also find it hard getting air for your tanks. The best diving is on the islands - Utila, Roatan, Guanaja and even the Cayos Cochinas. The EASIEST way to get over to the islands is by ferry from La Ceiba. However, there is probably someone who has a boat that would take you over from Trujilo for the right price. It would be a long trip though.

Take a look at Utila Official Site - Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras - Tropical Island Paradise. There's a good bit of info on movement to/from the mainland. Also, Moon's guide for Honduras is the best of all the travel books out there. Congrats on the house. My wife and I bought a house in La Ceiba a few years ago and enjoy traveling back and forth from the US to Honduras.
