So I got a "good deal" on a U.S. Divers Conshelf SE3 1st stage. When I brought it home, I noticed one of the port covers was missing. I said to myself no problem, so I took one of the low pressure port covers off another regulator.

That was when I realized this port is much larger and does not take the standard low pressure hose/cap threading.

Does anyone with a Conshelf know where I get the cap that goes over this larger port? It is not the high pressure port and I have no idea what this port is.

Any insight is appreciated.

I forget what the actual size is, but I purchased an assortment of plugs off of ebay, and was able to cover all of my needs. So, I'd recommend just keeping an eye out for something similar. Either that, or your LDS should have one.

The stndard LP port is 3/8" but for awhile there was a fad where many companies went top 1/2" ports to support a misguided marketing strategy that 1/2" ports would improve flow rate and brathing performance (it does not as the oprifice in the second stage is still the same size and is still the limiting factor.) Thankfully this fad has pretty much went away as, as you have discovered, it created a bit of a logistical pain by adding another port plug size.

So..just get a 1/2" port plug from the local dive shop.

Hahaha! :11doh: My 2 regs have that configuration - using 1/2" ports. I've been reluctant to change the hoses that fit there, thinking that they made it bigger for a reason. I didn't consider that the orifice on the 2nd stage was still the rate limiting step...

Thanks for that thought DA.

Anyway, Deltat, you can either look for a 1/2" plug, or you can get an adapter that reduces the orifice size from 1/2 to 3/8". That way you can use your existing port plugs, or if you decide to stick some other hose there, it'll be able to fit.
