Hello,

My girlfriend and I got certified just a few days ago and I want to buy her a regulator as a gift for the effort she put on the classes but I don't know exactly what to choose, I have in mind a ScubaPro MK17/R390 wich I've seen for 173€(about 215$) in a local dive shop, is this a good deal? I do not see this combination in any online store so I can not compare prices. Any other suggestion would be much appreciated ;)

I just purchased a Scubapro MK17 /S550 so while its not exactly the same combo I believe you can't go wrong with the MK17 1st stage. I suggest you call several dive shops and compare their prices. I think you and she'll be very happy with the new regulator you are thinking of getting.
 
Wow, I think that's a good deal. Leisurepro has MK17/R290 @ $299. Does it come with warranty? If yes, then man, I wish I can buy another set of MK17 at that price. BTW, if you buy the MK17, make sure you ask them for a longer hose > 36', instead of standard 32'. MK17 hose routing is a pain in the ***.
 
Yes, warranty included in the pack, is one of those big places where no matter how you abused the product, if it is within the warranty period they return your money back with no questions...

uhmm... comparing prices I've realized I can buy this MK17/R390 and then a S600 second stage for almost the same price as a MK17/S600, would be posible to use the R390 as a secondary air source/octopus? Ey it's not yellow by itself but I think a yellow hose would do the trick and also help me save some money ;)
 
The MK 17 S600 would be a much better performing regulator as the S600 is a balanced second stage. The R390 could them be used as an octo. Color does not matter but tuning any octo to the first stage does. The flow vane in the R390 makes it nearly ideal for octo use - a feature not present on SP's newer unbalanced second stages so a MK 17 S600, R390 package would be just about perfect.
