Ok, all you Chi-town divers I need some help. Next spring my daughter has a band trip scheduled there. The hotel they are staying is a bit more than we want to pay ($179 a night). So I am looking for a good hotel in Chicago area that is closer to $100 or less a night. Any suggestions?

Downtown Chicago is usually in that range or more although occasionally some of the properties offer some better rates. If you can commute a bit, the airport hotels tend to have better rates with secure locations convenient to air travelers. As Do it Easy suggested in his reply, it makes a big difference where your activities are taking place.

Ok, update.

My wife had put the info away last night and I couldn't find it.

We will be driving there. The team is staying at the Embassy Suites in Lombard. But also listed it as Chicago-Oakbrook. Unless I researched it wrong, Lomabard is about 15 miles from Chicago? Anyway, this is the area we are look at.

Thanks for any suggestions.

There are still some variables here, not the least of which is the dates you'll be visiting the Windy City, that effect the price. If it's not too obvious might I suggest you check out one of the online resellers such as Hotels.com or Travelocity and do a search for the specific zip code of the band's venue. The major chains will be OK.

Lombard is more like 25 miles to Chicago, that being said depending on when you leave the trip could take more than an hour. Use www.sidestep.com which will show you all the hotels around the area and the best prices available from about 50 web sites.

you can definately find better deals than $179 we were just there and paid something like $80 or $90 a night and it was a really nice place with a little kitchenette and breakfast was included...Hubby says the name of the hotel was "Hawthorn Suites" in Schaumburg...don't know if that is near where you want to be though...

Schaumburg to Lombard is about 30 minutes I'm thinking.....

Like others have stated...stay away from downtown for lodging....you should find something in the Lombard area for under a 100.00.....

Schaumburg is "visitor friendly"- there are lots of hotels, restuarants, movies, shops, and the largest mall in Illinois (woo hoo :no) BUT, like Jep said, it is a little ways from Lombard, so you might want to find a closer hotel.

Try Priceline.com and bid on hotels in the western suburban area.
You should be able to get a room on the Oak Brook, Lombard area, Downers Grove, Lisle are for about $50.00 per night.
Check out this link to Bidding for travel , you can see what others have paid when using priceline.

I have stayed at the Lisle Hyatt a few times , and have not paid more than $50.00 per night on weekends.
The Marriott Oak Brook, just 2 miles east of the Embassy can be had for about $100.00 per night.
Good Luck, Jim Breslin
