I'm a novice, and I'm going to beginning my diving classes soon. I do have a hairline crack in my spine, which hasn't stopped me from playing golf or rugby, because I've paid attention to protecting my back. I live in a tropical area.

I'm interested in looking for a good BC that has excellent lumbar support. Presently I've been looking at the Seacsub Tech Pro and the 2000, what does everyone think of this? Are there any other BCs worth looking at?

Let me ask you a question.

When you're underwater, if you are properly weighted, you will have such a small amount of air in your BC that if won't really give you any good lumbar support. A BC really isn't designed based on protecting your injury. So the question is, wouldn't it be better to use some other method to support your lumbar that you can use diving? For example, there is a neoprene back support device sold that you could wear under a wetsuit or drysuit (LINK). If you used something like this, you could base your BC purchase on your diving needs.

Just a thought.

Actuallly sounds like a much better idea..thanks mate

My pleasure :D - and welcome to the board!!

For me and my iffy back, a BP is an orthopedic device.

I am thinking to get the Zero Tech from Coltri Sub. Excellent value for money. I have a bad back as well. So I will let you know. Cheers

Zeagle has an optional add-in lumbar support pad that fit's most of their bc's. I have one. It does work.

If you need support it seems you'd need it even when you don't have the BC on, maybe more so. Scuba tends to involve a lot of moving gear around.

Padding isn't going to help anything..........unless you just have a bruise or something.
