Oh boy well that throws me off! In your opinion since you have both, do you think the cx3 has a strong enough beam to penetrate under overhangs and crevices from say like 10ft away? I prefer the size and charging ability of the cx3. My adjustable orca is kind of bulky.

So this is for daytime? I'd rather save $90 and get a DGX 1000-6 or 1000-8 instead of the CX3.

It uses the same emitter as the CX3 except it's the tighter beam version (Luminus SFT40 versus SST40) so the spot will be brighter, but smaller. Even at the medium setting this should be bright enough to spot critters from well over 10' in normal Coz viz.

DGX also has an 8 degree version at the same price which would be nicer for open water night dives. It's got a more powerful emitter (CREE XHP50), so even daytime brightness will be about the same as the 1000-6 in its slightly larger spot. Burn time is less, but I can't imagine running this at full power for a night dive. I rarely use the high setting at night even on my less powerful DGX600.

Excellent info! Thank you for that. Haven’t heard of those lights but I’ll check them out. Definitely for daytime looking in to shadowed areas a little ways away. I have plenty of lights that work great for night diving.

One more vote for the zd710 mk2. Especially if you already own some Orcas and are happy with their overall quality. My wife has the original and there’s no comparison. The mk2 is brighter and gets down to a 4-degree beam angle with very little spill. And it has a plenty bright turbo mode when you hold down the switch. It’s the first dive light I’ve owned where the super focused spot makes it 100% clear that you’re using it as a night dive signal and not just randomly looking around at stuff. And it still does great as a normal spot and flood
