I have been diving for work at a marina working on waterlines and whatnot. I am currently in a Zeagal Ranger, but would like something more streamlined with less stuff to snag the dock pulling my bcd out of the water. My routine is to throw my bcd into the water don and doff it in the water then pull it back out when I'm done. I am trying to minimize the risk of dragging my gear across the dock and potential snags.

I am wondering if a bp/w setup is easy to Don and doff in the water or if another minimalist bcd exist which I should look into.

I don't need integrated weights or pockets, but a D ring or 2 would be nice for clipping tools into.

BP&W is easy to don or doff in the water.

I replaced my Ranger with an Express tech and loved it within the first few minutes of diving. I needed to add a couple of pockets and they were more convenient than the Ranger's.

While you only save a pound or so traveling, the ET takes a lot less room.

Working in marinas doing vessel water lines no real need for a bcd. Go old school get just a back pack.

I just had to perform all of the NAUI leadership skills yesterday, including scuba bailout *don gear while submerged*, scuba unit ditch and don *doff unit while submerged, swim away, come back, and don unit*, equipment exchange *transfer equipment to another diver while buddy breathing*, and perform equipment removal and replacement at the surface. All divers were wearing backplates and wings and it was no problem. Multiple ways to get into and out of them at the surface with no issues. If the harness fits properly, it should be loose enough to get into and out of and compounded by the resin impregnated webbing they hold their shape so it makes it that much easier

Dispense with the expensive and delicate BC. Use an inexpensive snorkel vest for emergency floatation and a tank and a plastic back pack. Lose the snorkel vest if you can swim (actually swim).

Definitely a BP/W with a simple webbing harness is what you want. For ultra non-snag-ability, you could take the wing off and ll the D rings except one as you mentioned you might like to have. Then, assuming you actually go diving for fun as well, you can simply install the wing and add the remaining D rings.

It is a little weird to think about choosing dive gear because it can be easily dragged across a dock, but to each his own!

A BP/W may be your best bet. If you don't need any lift just remove the wing. In addition, you can streamline it further by taking off any D-rings that you don't need/use.
