I have a boat in Long Beach Marina and I'm taking some buddies out with thier instructor to get thier boat/deep dive certifications. Is there any good dive spots for this outside the breakwater or in the surrounding area?

Thanks for your input.

Dan

San Clemente Island is great but it is a little long of a boat ride. Great kelp diving and some awesome wall dives there for that deep dive certification you were talking about. You just need to find the walls which can be tricky since they are not officially marked.

There are a lot of wrecks and reefs outside the Long Beach breakwall, including the Ace1, African Queen, Caissons, Fog wreck, FS Loop, Gambler, Georgia Strait, Moody, Olympic II, Radio Tower, Ross-O Reef, IZORs reef and the Johanna Smith, among many others known and unknown. Marine supply stores have books and charts that list many of these with coordinates. Depths of the local wrecks range from 75 feet at the wrecks less than a mile from the breakwalls to 160' at the Caissons.
