Hi everybody!

I'm new on this forum and to New England diving in general. Moved here from New York last September. Went for a couple of shore dives in Glouster with Cape Ann divers and I can't stop! The only thing that annoyed me is running out of air with those flimsy aluminum rental tanks, but this week aggravation should end as I'm getting new Faber 108s. Those babies (provided I can get good fills) should hold enough air for me to take a dive, take a nap on the bottom and dive again without changing tanks :)

Anyway, taking a vocation Aug 21 to Sep 7 and want to find a buddy that would like to do some dives in the mornings. Plan to catch lobster and maybe spear some sea bass and flounder (have a little spear, not speargun).

If anybody wants to go diving in the morning anytime during the weekdays of the next two weeks, leave me a note. Weekends I plan to dive with Cape Ann Divers’ guided shore trips. I was planning
to check out as many sites at Cape Ann as I could. Not sure but may go down to Cape Cod or RI too, that is all still uncharted territory for me.

I am always up for diving. I would actually like to try to get some early morning dives in before i go to work, either that or night dives. Send me a message if you have a particular day in mind and let me know what time you were thinking.

Cool.

I was thinking Tues, the 24th, being at the beach around 8:00 AM. What time do you have to be at work? I can go earlier or later, doesn't matter much to me. My favorite site so far is Pebble Beach, but I'm open to suggestions.

If Pebble Beach is your favorite, you need to get out. :)

Cathedral Rocks is beautiful, but it's a hike down some steep rocks. It's probably my favorite site, although it's a tough entry/exit, and should only be dived near high tide. Unfortunately, I don't get to dive it much since I only own doubles at this point and there's no way I would make it up or down the hill alive.

Old Garden Beach is one of my favorite spots, too, and parking during the week is easy. Plus, the entry is real nice...walk down a ramp, over some rock and sand, and into the water. Head out at around 50 degrees and swim until you turn. At high tide, you can reach 40-45 fsw, but usually I don't get to much more than 30 fsw. Vis seems to always be good there, and only a bad North East wind will blow it out.

Well on the 24th, high tide is at 5:55AM. I'd suggest trying a spot other than pebble since pebble is easy any day of the week (as far as parking etc)

I'm thinking Folly would be nice if we could get there around 7:00. This would allow plenty of tide to help the entry/exit. This of course depends on the weather.

Hey, I only did two sites here so far, Pebble and Folly. Don't pick on newbies! :) I thought Folly was too overcrowded and picked dry as far as lobsters go (although it was much better on the far right side of it).

We were actually supposed to go dive Cathedral Rocks that day but it was kinda rocky and the "Girly Men" in the group chickened out :crafty: (Sorry, this latest Arnold's fraze stuck to me worse than even the infamous "I'll be back!".) Also there seemed to be so many lobster traps there, it looked from above kinda like diving in the mine field :)

No prob. I've never been to Folly Cove, myself. I hear it is beautiful, though.

Cathedral has it's share of traps. I refuse to drag a flag there. I just find a rock and tie it off close to the entry point and then free-swim from there. If I *have* to surface, I carry a bag and shoot it. I've just gotten my flag line tied around too many buoys.

Lobsters aren't too good at OGB, but the scenery is nice. Cathedral tends to have a fair share of lobsters, though.

Sounds good, Hurleyskis. There is also a chance I might go on Monday too, depending if I can free up that day from chores.
I'll post in this thread on Sunday, so we can plan the dive, ok?

Btw, just curious, is there a website or something that you use to predict tides? Or you just count full moons or something?
