Lac Bay by the conch shells if the waves aren't too bad, it is a great dive with bigger animals possible.

Hope you enjoy Bonaire and I hope that you will have such a good time that you'll learn what PBD is. I'm heading there April 5th [2 days to go!!!!!!!]

I think you will like Angel City. It's such a great place to easily see the double reef system. Swim out before going down and spend more time on the furthest, deeper, reef. Once you are comfortable with the shore diving you may wish to try my favorite, Red Slave. Sometimes a difficult entry, a longer swim to the reef that starts out deeper than most and you need to watch the current around that edge of the island. But the reef there is very steep with plentiful life and the chance to see some of the larger animals. I remember it as being especially colorful with plenty of sponges. An exhilarating dive.

But, regardless of where you dive there are differences depending on the time of day. Very early morning and a lot of the night critters are still out. And, you will find that the night diving so very easy that it is well worth it. While at night a lot of people like to light up the area, I've learned to appreciate low intensity lighting that doesn't disturb the hunting eels and octopus as well as some of the shyer crabs and shrimp.

Good Luck!

Liz avoids video and picture taking as much as possible.......

I posted a video of Liz at the Hilma Hooker. She wanted me to tell you so you could watch. I hope you guys have a great time. I'm still sad I couldn't go with you in May.

Here's Liz with the Hooker.;) Scuba Diving Videos Diver with Hooker - Bonaire

She looks like she is having a great time..even her bouyancy control for a brand new diver looks good,I saw her stop and hover to let a bit of water out of her mask there on the wreck. Thanks for the video..
I still have 1 spot for a guy and 1 spot for a gal left :)...see you all soon.I'll get you all photos from my trip.

Herman - I was actually planning on doing the 1000 steps, don't know how that one missed my list. Thanks for the heads up.

sasscuba - We'll have to check out Lac Bay it's always pretty neat seeing larger animals as well, just adds to the diversity of what you can see. Probably the largest thing we have dove with was a very very friendly harbor seal and the mammoth green sea turtles of Hawaii.

Phacops - Perhaps we'll see ya at Angel City at some point.

How is the National Park to visit? We were thinking about hitting that up on our day before flying. Anything else that would be great to know?

Here's to a week full of bubbles. ;)

Karapata
Like others have said, a little more challenging getting in/out, but still not too bad. There is a Concrete block that you can hold onto most of the way.

Ol' Blue
I wasn't too impressed, there seemed to be quite a bit of Y-Branch algae here in Jan, but it was interesting, and very easy water entry. You can set your gear on the rocky ledge, and then grab it once you've walked down there. There are a bunch of staghorn coral in the shallows just North of the beach, making landmarking the exit pretty easy.

Oil Slick
There's a big ladder here, and several concrete pads were poured to do a Giant Stride off of. Pretty easy in/out other than the tall ladder. Some people prefer to dive it with smaller tanks to make the exit easier.

These are all pretty much the same dive. The Hooker is not what you would hope for if you have ever dove wrecks in NC, Great Lakes, etc. It's on its side, and pretty boring. They seem to have more or less stripped it of everything interesting, and other than the prop, there isn't much growing on it. The reef around it is pretty nice though. Some of the larger stands of corals, and pretty healthy. The upper reef around here is just BIG. IIRC the double reef comes together around Alice in W, but I don't know for sure. The iron shore can be tricky around the hooker, and there are a lot of small corals near the shore than can hurt. Probably best to walk using your tank as a prop and don it once you get in about 6' water if you aren't too steady on your feet. Full wetsuit can be nice as well to avoid scrapes if you slip.

Oh, and the National park was cool, but bring plenty of water and snacks. There is nothing inside there. Plenty of big Iguanas at the watering hole or something off the long route. Got some cool pictures.
