Hey All,
The other day I was talking with a diving buddy of mine and he was telling me about a near miss between a charter boat and a freighter while paying a visit to the STRAITS OF MACKINAC. Apparently the captain of the charter boat had to untie from the wreck, while divers were in the water, to avoid being hit by a freighter. It caused some damage to the wreck. Has anyone else heard about this? What really happened? Who was the charter service? Please enlighten us
Thanks

I would hope if that is true the captain of the charter boat got the name of the freighter and called it in to the coast guard!!!

i been pokin' around the net for an answer or maybe even a report but found nothing...

I did not hear about the Freighter one but I was up in the Straits over the 14th and 15. While on my saftey stop I hear several boats above us. After surfacing our boat captain told us of 4 cabin cruiser that violated not only the dive flag distance but standard boat distances as well. He told us he told them what he thought of them ;)

Since many of the dive are right in the shipping lanes it does not surprise me there have been close calls.

JBSJIM,

I'm glad to hear you are alright and were able to safely surface.

But, FYI - the Straits of Mackinac is a ship wreck. You were in the Mackinaw Straits. Confused me too for awhile.
