So, it appears that I'll be spending 6 weeks next summer in Middlebury while the Wife attends the Bread Loaf School of English. I've heard some about Lake Champlain, what other diving is available in the area? Any good tips on Champlain? Dive buddies?

Here are some Top New England dive sites?

Lots of buddies in the area. And don't worry about getting around New England, it's "not very fah (far) from here to thah (there)" Just check your "mop (map)" LOL. New Englanders think it's a long drive if it goes more than 90 minutes! Maine (just found out about the SCUBA Knowtes, Dive Site Guide, Nubble Light ) Boston area, Rhode Island and then the Sound offer great opportunities for diving, from what I hear. I love living here and have no dive experience (just finishing up my OW course) but I have been paying attention.

PS: if I'm around (I go to Canada for 6 weeks in the summer) I would be happy to dive with you, if you want to dive with a newbie. :) I am about 3 hours away.

Having stayed at the Breadloaf Campus a number of times and familiar with the area you are in for a treat. There is so much to do other than diving that I would recommend looking at some of the other options the area provides such as fly fishing, hiking, camping, biking, paddling. If diving is a must, I can recommend diving lake George, NY which is known for good vis and a thermocline that starts much deeper and drops deeper during the summer.

If our schedules can match up, I'd be game for a dive(or 10)!

Oh, yeah! I'm also looking at the hiking and paddling options as well! We did Santa Fe last summer for Breadloaf and we hiked almost every day. It was an epic experience. I'll definitely check out Lake George! Thanks for the tips!

If you'd need a buddy for lake george let me know... I'm maybe 45 mins away, and would join you for a few dives...
