I have to take Dramamine nearly every time I dive even if no boats are involved because of this. I don't ever get dizzy but I get the horrible urge to vomit and usually do. Slow acents and good buoyancy control help but once I get close to the surface I feed the fish. I never notice a problem with equalizing though. It's strange but one Dramamine an hour before I go on a dive usually prevents it.

I get the crackling in my ears often as well. It's just your ears equalizing. I've also gotten vertigo on ascending very occasionally. I just focus on something else for the few seconds it lasts.
