Thinking about diving Lake Lure. Has anyone done it? problems, advice? I have a rowboat that can be launched from anywhere. Such a beautiful lake, and within a few hours of Charlotte. Also looking for interesting areas around Charlotte...speak up and let me know your favorites!~!!

I was there last summer, and the folks at the marina near the dam said that people sometimes dived there. I don't have any details, though.

I just moved from Charlotte in January, and used to dive the Lake Norman Quarry, just off Hwy 150 in Mooresville. It's owned by the Piedmont Diving and Rescue Association. You can find their website and contact info with a web search. It's a nice little quarry with several wrecks.

You also might want to try Bluestone quarry (I think their web site is listed as Blue Dolphin Dive Resort). It's near exit 95 on I-85, just outside of Thomasville. It's another good quarry site within an easy drive of Charlotte.

Finally, there's a good club that meets monthly called the Charlotte Hammerheads. They're a great resource for local diving. I believe the website is http://www.charlottehammerheads.com

Good luck and safe ascents,
Grier
