If it's holding me aloft, tied to my bosun's chair ,then it's a manrope.

A line put along the deck in bad weather for sailors to hold onto when moving about the deck
 
A bold shore is deep enough for the ship to dock against it. I think....
 
We also use wire rope on the oceanographic winches.

A bold shore is one in which the bottom falls away quickly and thus may be closely approached.
