Nauru Airlines will be extending it's Friday service to Chuuk from 20 November 2015, returning on Sundays allowing for an 8 night stay in Truk.

It's a bit of faffing around with the island hopping, but you get to see the Solomons, Nauru, Kiribati, and Micronesia while you're at it!

This seems promising - especially for the Australians.

Say what you will about Nauru Airlines, but at least they're not United...

It is always nice to have more options, and hopefully it will work out. But, with that many stops, especially among the islands, just keep in mind the possibility of delays and/or lost checked baggage. I didn’t think it would be possible but my checked bag (a different airline), with some of my dive gear, got lost flying from Kwajalein to Chuuk. I eventually got it. I had always heard that it was not unusual for regular checked baggage to get bumped for peoples’ ice chests with food, and I saw lots of ice chests.

I would still consider going through the US Territory of Guam, the direct Oceania/Micronesia primary hub into Palau & Truk (Chuuk). Along with Guam, at least you've got major feeder routes through Int'l Airports/Metropolises like Tokyo, Taipei, Seoul and Manila to overnight in --just in case you get delayed due to weather, lost luggage etc.

Here are some options if the United Airlines Flight from Guam to Chuuk has to divert due to weather:

Pack your gear in an ice chest ;)
