I know that this is probably being put into the wrong forum, but I wanted some opinions from some local folks on this matter. Our LDS is thinking of coordinating a NAUITECH Intro to Tech course in conjunction with NADE at some point this year for those of us who feel we haven't already spent enough money in this addiction called Diving! My question is....anyone here have any experience with this course? anyone taken it? I've been out with Heather and Dave before and I am not concerned with the quality of instruction as I know it will be top notch. However, should I perhaps be considering other courses from other agencies..i.e., TDI Decompression Procedures, etc? From what I have read of the course descriptions the NAUITECH course seems to cover a bit more material, but perhaps in a more general manner.
I'm not looking to dive the Empress or the Doria, but I am looking to expand my knowledge and capabilities and given that almost all my dives are done here in the balmy, bright waters of New England I am not concerned with having the necessary experience. But....this stuff does get expensive, and I want to also want the best possible training I can get. Afterall...its my life on the line, and maybe yours too!
Help me out here folks.

It's not the agency, it's the instructor...

That being said, "Intro to Tech" is not a technical diving course. It is a skills course ALA DIR Fundamentals (without the DIR part), so comparing it to TDI Decompression Procedures is not apples and apples. I'd talk it over with Heather and see what she feels would be an appropriate class for you. Maybe do a dive or two with her and have her evaluate you. If you have never dived doubles before, this might be a good class for you.

If you have dived doubles and are interested in decompression diving, I'd be more inclined to go with Adv Nitrox/Deco/Helitrox (or Heliair) which together comprise NAUI Tech "Technical Diver". This will allow you to get to some of the better/deeper wrecks in the Boston area.

I have not taken this course but sure think the concept is a very good idea. I have seen plenty of people enroll in tech training who have no concept of trim, buoyancy control, how to properly weight themselves. When you add twin tanks, a stage bottle and lift bag deployment the challenge can be great. There is not enough time in a standard deco procedures class to walk a student through these basic skills. They should aready possess them if they are to gain the most benefit from a entry level tech program
