I have been researching dive training for quite some time now, and I have narrowed it down to a CMAS course and a NAUI course. The Naui course is done through a local lifetime fitness and consists of Saturday/Sunday pool/classroom then 4 open water dives. The CMAS course is over double in price and can be up take up to 2 months to receive initial certification, the CMAS course also requires students to furnish their own equipment. Right now I am leaning more towards the CMAS course because it seems as if the training is much more in depth. Anyone have any advice?

CMAS, as I understand it, is more involved. That is not to say that NAUI will not give you good instruction.

Is money or time a huge issue are just a bother? Have you spoken to the instructors? Asked some questions? If you are comfortable with either instructor and can afford the longer course then I would say take the CMAS course.

Did you meet with the instructors? Which one gave you a better feeling as to teaching the way and what you want to learn?

Double in cost, double in value? Less? More?

What are your objectives?

If this is just about money and time, it sounds like the NAUI course is cheaper and quicker.

Give us more to go off of.

As of tonight I have met with both instructors, both of which have 20+ years of instruction experience. What I did not know until tonight was the CMAS instructor is also a course director with NAUI and also offers a quick weekend NAUI certification class. Since I wish to achieve the best training in depth training possible I have decided to take the CMAS course.

I learned through CMAS and did the 1 and 2 star course and it was ok but, I did not have a choice. Naui is good as well. I am a Naui Instructor and hope you have a fun and safe course.
