so i hope im posting in the right place here. if im in the wrong area im sorry. but this past sat i went diving with a buddy. and when we got out he had noticed he had forgot his card at home. ( first time diving with this buddy). so he signed my log and said he would call me with his diver #. well he calls me back later that night and said his card does not have a cert # on there and that he thinks naui does not have one. so my question is is does naui have a diver # or did i make a huge mistake by not making sure he had a card first and hes dupping me??

i do know lesson learned though.

I am NAUI certified i have got a cetified number on my OW and AOW cards...
NAUI does have a diver number

My O/W NAUI card DOES NOT have a Student #, just an Instr. #. Like the one pictured above. Don't fret it..... Your log is signed, that's all you need. If you think about it, log signing is really done on the Honor System anyway. You could "Make Up" a bunch of dives and have anyone sign it and put certifications numbers. I have never had anyone question my dives or try and VERIFY who actually signed it.

thank yall much for the advice. ill just follow as wildbill says and just keep it honor system with this. but if they have a number i will get it lol.

Look on the back of your card.

Doubtful that you are being dupped.

Many years ago NAUI issued paper c-cards with a number. Then they started issuing plastic cards and had what was called the "Q" number. Certs started with the letter Q in the early 80's. Then came along the better way so agencies thought of tracking with a SSN thus, student numbers were no longer put onto the cards. Only Instructor numbers were put onto the plastic cards.

Based upon your certification knowledge you should have been able to key in on whether he/she was a certified diver and made an educated determination as whether to dive or not dive.

Remember there is no specified requirement except for a few places that requires a dive cert in order to dive.

With the fact that the individual called you and stated that there was not a number on the card should have told you the person was legit just perhaps not knowledgeable.

So how was the dive and buddy contact/prescence?

NAUI started printing numbers on their cards again recently. Those who have been certified in 2010 should have numbers on their cards. There's even an option to get a picture on your card if you want one.

This explains why I have no number on NAUI O/W card on front or back. I know I don't have one because I have since got Adv. O/W and Rescue Diver through SSI and would have put them on the registrations........
